New ReviewerI have Hunter Douglas trios silhouette blinds that I bought about ten years ago. Hunter Douglas discontinued the blind and makes no replacement parts for it.
I find the company only wants you to buy new blinds and has no interest in servicing older but still good blinds that are only a few years old. The part I was replacing came off and could not find it, a clutch idle end.
I called the service center which they said it was discontinued and they were no longer making parts for it. I had blinds that had lasted for 30-40 years and still around and working
Monetary Loss: $500.

I had a similar experience with Hunter Douglas.
Ok, they are in business to sell new products great, but why is there no after market in the blind industry like in Auto industry. My top rail has failed on a Duetter Vertiglide which will cost at least $1000 for something new 8' door wall, and there is nothing wrong with the shade, just top rail wore out after 15 years.
Can't by a top rail, makes no sense that no where in the world is there a top rail for such an expensive blind. and mine can't be only rail giving out
"About 10 years ago". LOL.
This is window fashions and in case you forgot, fashions change.
Technologies change as well, especially with innovative companies, like Hunter Douglas. Time to invest in new shades and help the economy.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but no complex mechanically operated window fashion will last 30-40 years.
I work at Hunted Douglas. my department daily restings and mends old blinds for customers on a daily basis.
there may be times when a blind ( as mentioned here) was not a highly requested blind...
Hunter Douglas would then move on to a better choice and discontinue the product. I can understand your frustration, I hope this sheds some light on the problem.
We retail and service Hunter Douglas shades, by far the best shades available in the market. 1st of all you don't have Sillouette shades (which are still available and easily serviced) you have Trio shades (honeycombs that open) which were sold by Hunter Douglas for a very short time and were discontinued due to lack of consumer interest.
Call Comfortex in NY and nicely request the control end(or whatever you need) for an Odysee shade (it is identical to Trio), I doubt they will service your shade, but they will probably send you parts or request that you get them thru a Comfotex dealer. That should solve your problem.
Why would they keep parts around for something they discontinued? And yes, they do want you to buy new instead of replacing old, that's any retailer. Especially when manufacturing is so cheap and styles are constantly changing it's not worth the warehouse space for extra parts.
It is worth it to me the paying customer. It will be worth it to them in the long run.
If they get bad reports about not servicing parts for products that they made, it reflects on their reliability. I am not buying from them again and I tell my friends too.
Well, if you can find a retailer willing to service anything after 10 years hang on to them because they are few and far between.
Thats what I talking about. Consider Sears, You buy a tool, 15 years later it breaks, you bring it in, they replace. They been doing that for a long time.
