Blackout Blinds

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was having a hard time sleeping in the mornings as I had shutters that were not keeping enough light out. I contacted Homeworks Custom Interiors to inquire about the blackout blinds and explained what I wanted.

I was told that the blackout blinds would solve my problem. I had them installed and no they were not blackout totally. The sides of the blinds even with their casing allowed the light to come in. The top also had the same problem.

So Homeworks Custom Interiors suggested that I could put a valance on the top and sides to ensure that the room was in total darkness. Was not happy to have to put out another additional $400.00 to get blackout blinds but at the time was not told that I had any other option. Another thing that no one told us is that we would not be able to use our window any more, that the casing would prohibit the window being opened and closed. I told my installer that was not acceptable and they had to cut out a section on the bottom to allow the window to open. It did not look very nice but their was no other solution to this problem.

Hunter Douglas should insure that reps are aware of the imitations of their black out blinds. The blind started getting *** in the fabric and the plastic cord broke within 60 days. At this point I had enough and asked Homeworks to contact Hunter Douglas and tell them that I was not happy with the blinds.

Hunter Douglas did credit me back the monies but I had to use the credit on a Hunter Douglas blind which I ended up buying shutters again, but I was stuck with the side panels which I have packed away as I did not want them in the first place. Supplier and retailers need to ensure that they know about the product limitations so that customers can make a informed decision.

Have not heard from Hunter Douglas concerning my order. Did not expect to receive any thing from them as customer satisfaction does not seem to be not a priority .

5 yrs life on 20 yr product

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Shame on Hunter Douglas for selling 20k blinds motorized that should last 20 yrs but only last 5 years and giving no repair options on when they fail. They ask you to paid that kind of money with no product support.

They are a rip off company with no morals.

Short sighted money grubbers and don’t deserve their reputation as a quality product company. I will spread the word wide

As a long standing Hunter Douglas Dealer, I must ask where you saw advertised a 20 year life span for motorized shades, when the written warranty has a clearly stated 5 year warranty on PowerRise or PowerView motors? Did you not review your warranty details before purchasing 20K worth of shades?

Besides, the average lifetime of a typical window covering is affected by so many factors, such as, shade size, install location, daily operation, normal wear and tear, consumer handling/care and interior environmental conditions. Rarely have I seen a decent looking 15 year old shade, let alone a 20 year old one.

If your shades are the former PowerRise system (post May 2010), you may still be able to get it repaired (out of warranty) for much less cost than full shade replacement. Contact a reputable Hunter Douglas Gallery Dealer.

Amazing Shades

Hunter Douglas - Amazing Shades

I have my honeycomb shades for 15 years. When the parts began to wear I requested new parts and they were sent within 2 weeks.

They stand by their product and charge 0 for replacement parts. No other company does that except maybe Hammacher Shlemmer (that I know of).

When they are dirty I take them off and put them in a bath and it cleans them. They are extremely durable.

Any company that stands by its product is a company I want to deal with.

It's rare that it happens and most companies will give you a hard time before they are willing to send parts and even if they do they make you feel bad. I told them the blinds were over 15 years old and they didn't hassle me.

Will not allow consumer to purchase repair parts

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought a house earlier this month that had Hunter Douglas Duette Honeycomb Blinds. One of the lift cords broke, which it seems this is not an uncommon occurrence, and so I contacted customer service to see if I could purchase a replacement kit or part.

I was told that I would have to go through a dealer to pay for the repair and they flat refused to send me the replacements. They provided me with a list of dealers where I could go to pay to have the blinds fixed.

What a load of garbage, just buy from a different company that will sell you replacement parts if you are inclined to do the work yourself.

Consumers are directed to authorized HD dealers for repairs for good reasons. It would be very complicated and costly for the level of service you are expecting (given the inevitable amount of wrong parts orders) .

There are far too many components and there can be different versions for a shade built in 2009 vs 2010. As a dealer, it can be difficult for us to find the correct part and order it. I can't tell you how many times a consumer has asked me to order a replacement "thingamajig". Huh?

What's that? They expect us to know. Best to bring the shade in to the dealer!

Sometimes we'll simply order the parts on the consumer's behalf and they can pick up from our showroom. It appears that many of the complaints are dealer related or consumer misinformation, not a lack of quality or service.

Purchased patio window sliders from authorized dealer. Installed through authorized dealer. They have never worked correctly and now that authorized dealer is out of business I will be responsible for a service call and any installation repairs need so they may work correctly. Warranty with Hunter Douglas really isn’t warranty it is charges, charges, charges. I was told I would need to find another authorized dealer and have them come and review what the issue is and they would then determine what, the, cost would be for the service call, repair and any additional work needed to repair the unit. I.should have purchased cheaper blinds and just replaced them as needed and saved myself all of this frustrating run around.

Don't honor lifetime guarantee

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've been buying Hunter-Douglas blinds for years instead of cheaper ones because of their "lifetime guarantee" (which they no longer advertise; now they have, I think, a 7-year-guarantee). My blinds break ALL THE TIME. The store I bought them from used to ship them for repair for free (I thought Hunter Douglas was paying for the shipping, but Hunter Douglas told me the store was, and I haven't pursued this). But the last time I brought in blinds for repair, the store said shipping would be $30. I paid the $30, and the first time I tried to use the blind after hanging it back up, it failed. Additionally, the store told me Hunter-Douglas is no longer honoring its lifetime guarantee. When I called Hunter-Douglas, they told me that "lifetime" means the "expected lifetime of the blind." And doesn't include "normal wear and tear" (which I was not told in the first place, and, in any case, I would not know what problems were due to "normal wear and tear" and what were due to manufacturing defect (plus, the store said they Hunter-Douglas would repair them if they broke for any reason whatsoever (even my kids, who were small at the time, pulling on them))). So I paid $75 to repair an older blind as well.

Not worth the money

Bad experience with the Roman shades I ordered. The material is very thin & does not travel well. They came very wrinkled & even after steaming did not look right. I tried to exchange for sturdier material & pay the difference, but they flat out refused. For such an expensive product, I would not expect this!

Inferior product

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Paid extra thinking Hunter-Douglas were the best horizontal metal blinds. Boy, was I wrong. The cord to raise and lower the blinds has a safety capsule on it that will break apart if too much weight is put on the cord. The purpose is to prevent kids from hanging themselves on the cord. Well, when we use the cord to just raise the blinds, the device comes apart, preventing the raising of the blind. Hunter Douglas customer disservice suggests correcting the problem by taping the capsules shut. Well, that defeats their purpose. They deny there is a problem and claim we must be raising the blinds wrong! Unbelievable! Don’t buy these HD blinds unless you want problems with no solution!

Charges for warranty service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

When my Hunter Douglas window covering product failed while still under warranty, the company directed me to its nearest authorized repair service provider. This provider then charged me to repair the covered product.

Hunter Douglas declined to refund the charge, stating that its warranty does not cover charges for repair service.

A warranty is a promise to repair or replace as necessary within a stated time period.

So a "warranty" that requires the customer to pay for repair is no warranty at all. And that is a breach of contract.

So please be aware: even though you are paying more for a Hunter Douglas product versus other manufacturers, you are not necessarily getting a better product or better service.

SECOND time remote control blinds are broken; customer service hopeless

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have a patio door sized roller shade operated by remote control. I purchased through Costco but they no longer sell and the installer went out of business. The blind broke two years ago (due to cleaning lady error) and was out for repair for eight weeks. The repair person (referred by Hunter Douglas customer service) was NOT happy as he wanted new sales vs. repair.

The blind is now stuck in the up position. All attempts to repair on my own (batteries, manual switch, etc.) haven't worked. Hunter Douglas Customer Service sent a new battery storage container, thinking that might be the problem....and, of course, they sent the WRONG one.

The whole purpose of these blinds is to protect the wood floor and oriental rug for a Western exposure window. Once again, it is summer and the blind is broken.

I am so frustrated with this product. If I had known, I would have NEVER purchased a remote control product.

Three Weeks Installed With Problems

Wanted to treat myself to custom shades for my new home. Spent over $2,000.00 for cellular shades. Thought that product would be of the highest quality since it is Hunter Douglas. These cellular shades were installed less than three weeks ago. Paint is pitting on sliding glass door shade. There also is a section which is missing coat of paint. Paint is chipping on the underside of the two shades in the bedrooms, and one of the shades now hangs crooked. I have notified the dealer who sold and installed these. Nothing so far. My fear from reading these reviews is that nothing will be resolved. Now I regret spending this kind of money on an inferior product. I should have stuck with Lowes. In my previous home, their inexpensive shades looked brand new after years of use.

find a dealer that knows what they are doing and how to install, do some research, all installation error nothing to do with HD.

Poor support from Hunter Douglas for their overpriced blinds.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I purchased Lite Rise blinds for six of my windows costing several thousands of dollars. Every one was cheaply made, failed several times requiring repair costs to me and I received virtually no support from Hunter Douglas.

My recommendation would be to look for alternatives other than Hunter Douglas since they are very expensive, prone to failure and not backed by Hunter Douglas as an expensive product should be. Do not, I repeat, do not buy a Lite Rise blind from Hunter Douglas! Most discouraging is the fact that the place where I purchased the blinds simply tells me that my problem is with Hunter Douglas! I guess that tells you their confidence in the product they sell.

By the way, every failure of each blind was the same...the rope fails after about 1.5 years and each blind costs more than a $1000. Not a good return on investment in my opinion and something to think about when thinking about Hunter Douglas.

"Resolved" but not to my satisfaction. Their lifetime warranty is a scam.

The durability of the product leaves a lot to be desired. Would look for alternative window coverings since you will be replacing a Hunter Douglas one long before you thought you might.

WORST SERVICE- IMPOSSIBLE TO APPLY GUARANTEE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
It's the second time I have problems with your Mexico City distributors. I bought a Odysee Room Darkening Color blind (and paid a ridiculous amount for it, with the guarantee still applying), and it stopped working more than two weeks ago. Immediately I called a second distributor in Condesa (because I had a complaint before -that was never answered- of another Condesa distributor), they came, asked for my receipt and guarantee and promised to call back- I emphasized that it was urgent because it's the blind of my room. They never called back. I called at least 5 times in these past two weeks and received no attention. Even when I asked for the address where I should bring directly the blind to make the guarantee aplicable (they charged me $1000 pesos to take it there), they did not give it to me. This TERRIBLE service impacts directly in your brand and I'll make sure that future customers know exactly what to expect from you

Buyer Beware - DO NOT BUY ANY HUNTER DOUGLAS MOTORIZED BLIND

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
BUYER BEWARE! If you purchase any Hunter Douglas motorized blinds, they are only good for 5 years. After 5 years, it is Hunter Doulgases position that you need to buy a new blind once its outside of the 5 year warrant period. They will not provide parts after that making your investment useless when you have motor issues which you certainly will. We learned the hardway!

Hunter Douglas - Terrible customer service. Defective product.
Hunter Douglas - Terrible customer service. Defective product. - Image 2

Ordered Silhouettes for our panoramic windows. It is a 2 in 1; meaning two blinds on one system.

Product failed right out of the box. The left side would not lower. Considering the amount of money we had spent, we requested new ones be made. The second set failed 6 months later.

First the left side and a few weeks later the right side. The blinds will only open partially, about 45 degrees and will become stuck 3/4 of the way up. One installer came out and determined it was the ratchet system ( whatever that may be), the second installer disagreed. Now we are at the point they will take the blinds down and send it in for repair.

The turn around is 3 weeks. We have been dealing with this since May 2017. Things move at a very slow pace, almost as if to see if you will get worn down and just quit. Deadlines are constantly missed.

Somehow we go from " the part will be in next week" to 3 weeks later I still haven't heard from them. I will not purchase another Hunter Douglass product. It is not worth the money and they do not stand behind their product.

Looking into what my legal options are at this point. I did not get what I paid for.

Hunter Douglas would not replace or refund the window treatments. Instead, they offered to repair them.

After being without blinds for 6 weeks they finally were reinstalled on February 8th. The blinds failed again yesterday, they will not raise, lower or tilt.

I'm thinking about taking them to small claims court. So much money spent on such a poor product.
